Jimmy William Poe, 81, of Pontiac, MO died peacefully on August 29th, 2018, at the Gainesville Health Care Center after a brief illness. Jimmy was born on May 16, 1937, in Udall, Missouri, the son of Cleo and Pearlie Poe.
Jimmy graduated from GHS in 1954. He worked 2 years for the Mobil Oil Company in Wichita, KS. In 1956 Jimmy, along with his Dad and brother operated the first DX Service Station in Wichita. He was extremely proud to be a part of this venture.
After his Wichita stay, Jimmy served 6 years in the Missouri National Guard.
In 1960, Edward Stith gave Jimmy the opportunity to work for his trucking company in Kansas City Mo. Jimmy took that opportunity and ran with it. Jimmy worked for Chief Freight Lines for 21 years. He loved being a truck driver and worked hard earning a superior reputation in the trucking business.
Jimmy married Anna (Perky) Lee, in 1960, whom he often referred to as the "love of his life." They resided in Independence, Mo from 1967 – 1981 where they raised their 2 daughters and gave them a wonderful childhood.
In 1981 Jimmy and Perky returned to Gainesville. Jimmy worked for Guy King & Sons and Mountain Home Ready Mix until he retired in 1998.
Jimmy was a good and kind Christian man. He was the best Dad in the world and loved his girls with all his heart. He always had a smile on his face and loved to talk! He was Hank Williams Senior's biggest fan and nothing made him happier then to listen to a Hank record. Jimmy loved to play music. He would spend hours just playing his guitar and singing. Jimmy was blessed with 2 Granddaughters whom he thought hung the moon. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his family. He was a country boy and loved the simple life.
Jimmy and Perky attended the First Christian Church in Gainesville and looked forward to attending church on Sundays.
Jimmy is survived by two daughters: Tawna Poe and Deanna Haupert of Nashville, Tennessee Two granddaughters: Ryle Haupert and Kelsey Haupert; a brother Bernie Poe and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Perky Poe, sister, Vanita (Poe) Davenport and an infant son Jarrett William Poe.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO with Dale Roberts officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening, August 31, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Pontiac Cemetery. The family asks for memorial contributions to be made to the Pontiac Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
