Joe Criswell
Ava, Missouri
Joe Robert Criswell, 79 years, and 21 days old, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 12, 2026, passing away peacefully with his beloved dog Daisy by his side.
Joe was born June 22, 1947, in Seymour, Missouri to Herman and Cora (Rigby) Criswell. He spent most of his early adult life in Texas, where he worked alongside his father in the family dry cleaning business. Joe proudly served his country in both the United States Coast Guard and the United States Army, traveling the world during his years in the military service.
Later in life Joe made his home in Ava, Missouri, where he became a familiar and well loved member of the community. He was an employee of MFA in Ava, Missouri. He faithfully attended St. Francis Anglican church for many years and found comfort and purpose in his Christian faith.
Joe was passionate about Missouri Fox Trotter Horses and achieved several world championship titles with his horses he owned and loved. He took great pride in the breed and the friendships it brought into his life.
His love for animals was unmatched. Throughout his lifetime, Joe stated he rescued around 50 animals, believing every creature deserved kindness and a second chance. Of all the animals that shared his life, Daisy held the most special place in his heart. Joe often said, “she was the special dog” who made the greatest impact on his life. She simply wasn’t a pet-she was a loyal companion, bestfriend, and faithful presence until his very last moments.
Joe’s life was one of service- to his country, his faith, his community, and the animals he loved so dearly. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, compassion, quiet strength, and unwavering character. He was deeply loved by his friends and neighbors and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
A celebration of Joe’s life/visitation will be Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, Missouri. Cremation services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, Missouri.
