Obituary

Joe Kim Ebrite, 54, went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, March 23, 2012, while a patient at Capitol Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, Mo. He had been ill for a long time, and his family rejoices to know that Kim is now free of pain and breathing freely.

Kim was born July 11, 1957, to Joe and Bonnie Ebrite. He grew up in Gainesville, graduating from high school in 1975. For several years he worked in construction and then managed Amoco stations throughout Missouri.

Kim had a love of nature. He was able to see the most beautiful sights across our nation, but most of all, he loved sitting on the porch at the farm, enjoying the serenity and wildlife in Ozark County.

For the last 14 years, Kim has been actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous, a group that he credited with saving his life and guiding him toward a Higher Power whom he chose as God. He attended meetings every day that he was able, for his own sake and for the opportunity to serve others. Kim considered it an honor to be a sponsor for several others, offering spiritual encouragement and helping them through difficult times such as he had been through.
In the fall of 2011, Kim rejoiced when he was baptized by Halbert Smith at the Gainesville Church of Christ, fulfilling a long-held desire.

Kim is survived by his wife, DeAnn (Barcus) Ebrite, of Jefferson City; his mother, Bonnie Ebrite, of Gainesville; children, Jessica and Kyle Ebrite of St. Louis, and Lindsay Housand of Mesa, Ariz. Other family members include Kim's sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Stan Taber, of Wasola; brother Greg Ebrite of Gainesville; DeAnn's son, Jared Hayes, of Jefferson City; three grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. In addition, there are many AA members of the Sunset group in Jefferson City who faithfully supported Kim and DeAnn throughout Kim's illness who feel like family. He was predeceased by his father, Joe Lynn Ebrite, and grandparents Marvin and Ola Kirkpatrick and Leonard and Fay Ebrite.

Funeral services will be held at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville on Monday, March 26, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., with Halbert Smith officiating. A visitation will precede the service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Smith Chapel Cemetery, north of Gainesville.

If desired, memorials may be made to Smith Chapel Cemetery or to the American Lung Foundation.
