John Curtis Current, Jr.
Ava, MO

John Curtis Current, Jr., 94 years, 11 months, and 29 days old, passed away on May 29, 2016 at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare with his loving wife, Lillian by his side.

John was born May 31, 1921 in Weatherford, TX to John Curtis and Annie (Jenson) Current Sr. He was one of 8 children.

On August 11, 1947 John and Lillian Imogene Downing were united in marriage and to this union two daughters, Penny Sue and Mary Ann were born.

John was a WWII Navy Veteran. He served abourd ships from Feb. of 1942 to Nov. of 1945.

He was a Foreman with the city of Ft. Worth, TX. He retired in 1981 and in the middle of a snow storm on Christmas day moved to the Ozarks. Family members heard him daily express his love for his new home in the hills surrrounding Ava, where he lived for the next 35 years. He loved to hunt with his dogs and fish as he had done as a boy growing up in Texas. He played his harmonica with other musicians for recreation and enjoyment. Sometimes he broke out his instrument at family gatherings and played a happy, peppy little tune. He and his wife, Lillian, gardened and enjoyed cutting wood for their wood stove. They volunteered at the Food Harvest in Ava for several years. They attended the First Southern Baptist Church and later Brushy Knob Church. In his last years, Joh loved to take Lillian to McDonalds to eat lunch and meet friends. This became a daily routine and one that brought much pleasure to each of them.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Annie Current, brothers, Melvin, Lawrence and Douglas and a sister, Marjorie.

John is survived by his wife, Lillian Current, Ava, MO, daughters and sons- in-law, Penny Sue & Wesley Roberson, Ava, MO (Brushy Knob), Mary Ann & Bob Wells, Newark, TX, three grandchildren, Rick Roberson, John Wesley Roberson and Heather Leigh Headley, two great grandsons, two great granddaughters and one great-great grandson.
