JOHN HENRY LUNA
John Henry Luna, 89, Pontiac, Missouri, passed away March 26, 2010 in his home with his family present. He was born May 26, 1920 in Gainesville, Missouri, the son of Rufus E. and Beulah McDonald Luna. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was one of the first groups of US servicemen to enter Japan after the conclusion of the war. He was a life-long businessman in Ozark County serving as mayor of Gainesville, fire chief, and on numerous community boards. After retirement, he remained active in the Pontiac area engaged in farming, contributing his time and services to the community as well as the Pontiac/Price Place Volunteer Fire Department. He was a lifelong member of the Gainesville First Christian Church serving as a deacon and board member.
John was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister and brother, Gail and Ross; his brother, Raymond; his sister, Mary; and his brother, Joe. He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years Erma Lee Hart; a son, Charles Luna and his wife Lisa of Pontiac, MO; son, Larry Luna and his wife Laurie of Highlandville, MO; daughter, Johnna Morgan and her husband, Tim of Pontiac, MO; five grandchildren, Nick Luna of Springfield, MO; Megan Werner and husband Patrick of St. Louis, MO; Jabet Wade and husband Matt of Pontiac, MO; Caldwell Morgan and his finance Kate Stilley of Kansas City, MO; and Blake Luna of Frisco, CO; one great granddaughter, Chaney Luna Werner of St. Louis, MO; and two other great grandchildren are due to arrive in June and September this year. He will be missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 29, 2010 in the Gainesville First Christian Church under the care of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO. Burial will follow in the Gainesville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm Sunday, March 28 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gainesville Cemetery or the Pontiac/Price Place Volunteer Fire Department.
