JOHN MELVIN ZOOK

A musical memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Bailey's Street Café in Theodosia for John Melvin Zook, who died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at his Theodosia residence. He was 87 years old.
Mr. Zook was born May 19, 1921, in Oakland Mills, Pa., one of eight siblings born to David and Bertha Glick Zook. He joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and served two four-year tours stateside as a gunnery instructor. While establishing a new gunnery school near Salina, Kans., he met Lois Jean Scott. They were married Feb. 18, 1949.
The Zooks spent most of their married life in St. Joseph, where he worked in sales, including 28 years as an insurance salesman. They moved to Theodosia in 1978, where he later established a business selling advertising items to area businesses, merchants and political candidates. He was very well known in the area and had many friends.
He enjoyed annual gatherings with his seven siblings, all of whom survive: four brothers, Earl, Ray, Boyd and David Zook, and three sisters Mary Saner, Donna Zook, and Esther Lauver.
Other survivors include his wife Jean; his two daughters Pam Schneeflock of Savannah, Mo., and Cynthia Harmon of Conway, Ark.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers.
Cremation services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville. Memorial gifts may be made to the family to be used to help young pilots learn to fly; they can be left at the funeral home or mailed to Pam Schneeflock, 601 W. Main St., Savannah, MO 64485.
