Obituary

Joni June McCosh, age 59, passed away December 6, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Joni was a force larger than life, with a heart of gold! She brought joy to all she met with her charismatic personality and loud laughter. She inspired many people and charged through life picking up all those who needed her extra love and support. She was always there to cheer people on and helped them believe in themselves. Joni gave her time and effort freely and had many talents. She always gave the best advice, loved to entertain, could make or craft anything and she had a deep love for her family, her Platte County Fair family, and her many friends. Joni was a badass and no one ever messed with her!

She was born April 25, 1962 in Kansas City, MO to John Alfred Houx and Juanita June Houx. She grew up on a small farm in south Platte County and had a wonderful childhood with brother Shawn Houx. She enjoyed her free time crafting, horseback riding, sunbathing, spending time at the county and state fairs, and spending time with family and friends. Joni was stockholder and on the Fair Board as Treasure for the Platte County Fair. She often spent her weekends at the family farm in Theodosia, MO and Stockton lake..

She graduated from Park Hill High School in 1980 and earned an Associates degree in Early Childhood Education from CMSU . She went on to work for Park Hill school district after graduating college and became the Program Specialist at Park Hill Community Education, overseeing the early Childhood and Adventure club programs for the district. She later started her own graphic art endeavor called " We'll Design your Sign" where her real talents were revealed.

Joni met her husband, Joel McCosh, in the summer of 1979 at the Platte County Fair.  They were married for 37 wonderful years and enjoyed traveling, competing at the American Royal BBQ, showing and road racing Ford Mustang cars and traveling to different ATA Trap Shoots with their son, Dylan. They also enjoyed spending time at Stockton Lake where they both had planned to retire to.

She was preceded in death by her parents John Alfred Houx and Juanita June Houx.

Joni is survived by her husband Joel McCosh, son, John Dylan McCosh, brother, Shawn Houx (Dana), niece Taylor Houx, brother-in-law, Kevin McCosh (Kris), brother-in-law, Brian McCosh (Patsy), brother-in-law, Doug (Brenda) and all her Platte County Fair family and many close friends.
