Joseph Komives, 77
Words of remembrance for Joseph Komives, 77, of Gainesville, will be shared at the end of the regular 8:30 a.m. service Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at St. William's Catholic Church in Gainesville. Mr. Komives died Sept. 24 in San Antonio, Texas.
He was born Oct. 13, 1935, in New Brunswick, N.J., the son of Steven and Lee Tagano Komives.
On Aug. 29, 1958, in New Brunswick he married the love of his life, Margaret "Peg" Dunham. During his life he lived in Oak Creek, Colo., Hemet, Calif., and finally in Gainesville, where he retired. His family and friends knew him as a kind, caring and loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was a veteran, having served with the Marines. He was also a firefighter and retired from the New Brunswick Fire Department. He enjoyed square dancing. He supported his community, including local schools, firefighter and EMS departments, community outreach groups, and his church and associations. He valued the friendships and personal contacts he made during conversations over meals at local restaurants; he loved to joke and kid with his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Lee Komives; his four children: Joseph Komives in Mountain Home, Idaho, Jacqueline Komives in San Antonio, Judith Barron of Fresno, Calif. and John Komives of Delta. Colo.; his sister, Patricia Komives of Vorhees, N.J.; half-sister Evelyn Margarppo of Alabama; half-brother John Corvino of Alabama; his cousin, Patsy Rizco; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and by his wife, Margaret, who died unexpectedly in 1983.
