Josephine Suggs

Josephine Suggs the daughter of William N. Hicks and Tillie (Riley) Hicks was born May 28, 1921 in Buckhart, Missouri and departed this life Dec. 31, 2006 at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 3 days.

Josephine lived in Houston, Texas for the past 20 years and was formerly of Ava, MO. On June 15, 1945 Josephine and Harlan Ellis Suggs were united in marriage in the state of California. She was a cook at The Highway House for Don French for several years. She loved playing bingo, sewing quilts, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. In her later years, Josephine enjoyed listening to the ministry of Joel Osteen.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ellis Suggs, two daughters Brenda Kay and Patricia Ann Harvey, and one grandson, Kevin Lee Suggs, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include four daughters, Anna Lou Caudill of Ava, MO, Dorothy Phillips and husband Larry of Bruner, MO, Rita Ege of Ozark, MO, Linda Medlock of Houston, TX, four sons, Richard Lynn Suggs and wife Judy of Plentywood, MT, Robert Lee Suggs and wife Patsy of Cowgill, MO, William Ellis Suggs and wife Cindy of Houston, TX, Earl Suggs and wife Leona of Ava, MO. One brother, Raymond Hicks of Springfield, MO, 32 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2006 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home Ava, MO with burial in Mt. Tabor Cemetery and Rev. Robert Grisham officiating. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association. Services are under the direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO.
