Obituary

Obit for Judith A. Ross

Judith A. Ross passed away on 28 March 2024 from heart disease.  She was 86 years old and on multiple occasions stated she was ready to meet Jesus.  She was born July 11,1937 in Akron, Ohio.  She left Ohio and moved to California in 1963 with her first husband, Robert Algea and their two children, Robert and Cassandra.  Her first husband died in 1979 from a heart attack and she met her second husband, Jesse D. Ross (JD), six years later at a square dance.  Judy taught adult education classes and retired from the California Public Employees Retirement System.  In retirement, they spent many years camping throughout the United States finally settling down in Ava MO where JD was born and had lived as a child.

Judy enjoyed square dancing, camping, reading, doing puzzle books, and making crafts.  She loved the Lord and would spend time every day reading her bible and devotional books and praying over prayer requests.  She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, Take Off Pounds Sensibly weight loss group, and Ava General Baptist Church.

Judy and JD moved to Illinois to be closer to Cassandra where Judy spent the last 18 months of her life at an assisted living facility near her daughter in Illinois.  She easily made friends with the other residents and staff.  She became involved in most of the activities and programs and truly loved living there with her beloved dog Peanut.  Many times, her daughter would call to chat and Judy would say she couldn't talk right then because she was involved in something at the Villas.  It was great to see her adapt so well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olif C. Thomas and Mellie J. Thomas (Cox), her brother Layton C. Thomas, her first husband Robert W. Algea and her second husband Jesse D. Ross who had just recently passed away 9 February 2024.  She is survived by her two children, Robert D. Agea (Debbie) and Cassandra R. Salvatore (William), and two brothers, Larry C. Thomas (Ruth) and Lonnie C. Thomas (Sharon).  Along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorial services are scheduled for 15th of April, 2024 at 2pm at the Ava General Baptist Church.  Pastor Tim Reese will be officiating.  Services are being conducted by the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO.  Judy's remains will be interred in a family Plot at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery, Akron, OH at a later date.
