LARRY LEE McNEW

Larry McNew, Gainesville, MO, son of James Thurman and Fanny Laura (Hayes) McNew, was born January 21, 1945 in St. Louis, MO and passed away March 27, 2009 in West Plains, MO at the age of 64 years.

Larry was a Veteran, having proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a former deputy for the Ozark County Sheriff's Department, but is best remembered for owning and operating McNew's Pawn Shop on the west side of the Gainesville square for the past 16 years. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and truly enjoyed watching his Redbirds play. He had a love for antique cars and old Harley Davidson motorcycles. He has been a fixture around the square in Gainesville, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his ex-wife Karen McNew of Ava, MO; his children Rebecca Beard and her husband Jack of Columbia, MO; Larry Lee McNew Jr. and his girlfriend Danna of Pell City, AL; Jimmie McNew and wife Cynthia of Drury, MO; and Barry McNew; five grandchildren Brandon, Morgan, Meagan, Katelyn, and James McNew; two brothers Byron and Lance McNew; three sisters Naomi, Sandra, and Shera; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers and sisters; and special nephews Barry and Seth.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO with E.J. Hampton officiating. Interment will be in the Souder Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
