Laverna Lorene Hicks, 91 years, passed to heaven on September 23, 2011 at her home with her family by her side.

Laverna was born June 21, 1920 in Squires, MO to James and Susie (Manning) Anderson.

Laverna was a lifelong resident of the Ava community. On July 16, 1941 Laverna and Lloyd Wayne Hicks were united in marriage in Hartville, MO and to this union four sons were born.

She was retired from working at Spalding Manufacturing Co. in Ava and had also worked in Kansas City area with an ammunition company. She was a Christian and of the Baptist faith.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and especially her Bible. Her joy was being with all her grandchildren and family.

Laverna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lloyd in 1991, two sons, J.C. and Tony Lynn, three sisters, Dortha Plumb, Elma Spurlock and Stella Steward and one brother, J.B. Anderson.

Laverna is survived by her two sons, Roy Hicks & wife, Sharon and Garry Hicks & wife,Lisa all of Ava, MO, four grandchildren, Betty Hollaway, Rodney Hicks, Tommy Hicks and Ashley Hicks, one step grandson, Jacob, four great grandchildren, Matthew, Tia, Katie & Tiffany, one sister, Lucille Kelley, Ava, MO, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Laverna will be Monday, September 26, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Fannon Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Hicks and Rev. Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to Fannon Cemetery.
