LaVerne K. Halstead, 91 years, 7 months, and 26 days old, passed to Heaven on October 8, 2015 at Wilson's Creek Nursing in Springfield, MO with her family by her side.
LaVerne was born February 13, 1924 in Goodhope, MO to Ezra and Amy Inez (Nelson) Mitchell. She received her education and graduated from the Union Bible Seminary, Westfield, Indiana and she was also a retired License Practical Nurse (LPN).
LaVerne and Rev. Robert "Bob" Charles Halstead were united in marriage on June 14, 1941 at Goodhope, MO and they were blessed with three children.
LaVerne was a Christian and a member of the Goodhope Nazarene Church.
She was a devoted Minister's wife for many years. She enjoyed collecting big rocks, painting, cooking and sewing, puzzles, flowers and reading her Bible. Her joy and love was spending time with her family. LaVerne's passion was serving others.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, in 2001, a twin sister, LaVon Lakey and an infant brother, Richard Nelson Mitchell.
LaVerne is survived by her children and their spouses, Virginia and Clyde Fenwick III, Springfield, MO, Richard and Anne Halstead, Shepherdsville, KY, and Rosemary and Doyle Barnes, Ava, MO and four grandchildren, Amy and Vincent Harshey, Chris and Rachel Halstead, Kevin and Amanda Barnes, and Jayme and Phil Little, eight great-grandchildren, Mason Grant, Clarissa Rose, Doyle Lee, Lily Rae, Hunter Evan, Sydney Diane, Ace Doyle and Landry Rose, two sisters, Peggy and Jack Armstrong, Ava, MO, Polly and Tom Bingaman, Springfield, MO and one brother, Mac and Lue Mitchell, Ava, MO and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for LaVerne will be Monday, Oct. 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Goodhope Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor David Welsh, Pastor Mark Hatcher and Pastor Leon Hendrix. Memorials may be made to Goodhope Cemetery, Gideon's or Regional Hospice, 3405 W. Mt.
