Lawrence Gene Souder

Ava, MO

Lawrence Gene Souder was born at Souder, MO, in Ozark County on March 21, 1923 and passed away in his home on July 15, 2010 at the age of 87 years 3 months and 24 days. He was the son of Eddie L. Souder and Fannie Clarnetta (Lamar) Souder.

In Nov 26, 1976 he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Simon and there were no children born to this union. Betty preceded him in death Sept. 4, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Clarence, Almond, Etchel, Riley, Donald and a sister, Daizy Beck.

Lawrence was raised at Souder, MO and in 1943 enlisted in the Army during WWII. He was a Private First Class with the 95th Armored Field artillery Battalion, while in service he received the following European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal, American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He had a honorable discharge on Nov. 8, 1945.

Lawrence moved to Kansas City, Kansas and went to work at General Motors where he was employed until his retirement. He moved back to Ava, MO in the early 1980's and resided there until the Lord took him home.

Lawrence accepted Christ in the early 70's and served him faithfully. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Ava, MO.

Lawrence and his wife, Betty loved to travel and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was very good about taking people to the Doctor or whatever they needed. He was also known for his beautiful prayers and his joyful spirit. He was also a great giver.

Those left to mourn his passing are, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends. Lawrence will be missed.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 19, 2010 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with Pastor Tom Maples officiating. Visitation will be Sunday 4 to 6 P.M. in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Camp Joy, the Souder Cemetery or Gideons. Graveside military services by American Legion Post 112 and VFW5993.
