Leah Ayers Lawson

Ava, MO

Leah Carol Lawson, of Ava, MO passed away on September 14, 2014 at the Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare. She was born in Christian County on September 8th, 1942, the daughter of Roy and Helen Mae Ayers. She was united in marriage on August 12, 1961 to Dale Lawson.

Leah was a graduate of Fordland High School. She was a cheer leader and played varsity volleyball, and softball. She attended John Tyler Community College and University of Virginia.

While living in Virginia she enjoyed many family camping trips from Maine to Florida. A favorite time of her life was going to the beach, hiking in the mountains, and watching her children take part in various activities, especially competitive swimming.

She was a member of Ava United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School for over 30 years and had a special gift for working with young children.

After retirement, she and her husband moved back to the Ozarks and made their home near Ava. They became active in raising Missouri Foxtrotting horses. She also enjoyed quilting, reading, and travel to the western states.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her husband Dale, a son, Russ of Indianapolis, a daughter, Rhonda Phelps and husband, Reuben Phelps of Jefferson City, and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Sarah Phelps of Jefferson City, two brothers, Jack Ayers and wife Cindy of Sparta, and Jamie Ayers and wife, Alba of Fordland. Also by nieces, nephews, other living relatives and a host of friends.

A visitation will be held at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava on Friday, Sept. 19th at 6:00 p.m. and funeral services at the Ava United Methodist Church on Saturday 20th at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Ava Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, she asked that contributions be made to the charity of your choice or to the Ava United Methodist Church.
