Lenore (Short) Smith passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2006 in West Plains, Missouri. She was 89 years, 8 months, and 9 days old. Lenore was born on October 12, 1916 in Zanoni, Missouri to Fred and Nora (Hutchison) Sanders. At an early age, Lenore was saved and baptized. On October 14, 1933 she and John F. Smith were married in Sycamore, Missouri.
Lenore was a life long resident of Sycamore and a life long member of Pleasant Hill Church also known as Seedtick Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed making many beautiful quilts for her family.
She is survived by her five children Maggie Newton and husband Gene of Zanoni, Missouri; Shirley Hambelton of Gainesville, Missouri; Joel Smith and wife Lynda of Sycamore, Missouri; Sharon Wilson and husband Don of Ozark, Missouri; and Connie Collins and husband Gary of Dora, Missouri. Fourteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren. One brother Max Sanders and wife Ardelle of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters DeLore Thornton of Dora, Missouri and Molly Taylor and husband Chester of Sycamore, Missouri. Several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Preceded in death by her husband John F. Smith, parents Fred and Nora Sanders, one infant son Ronald Smith, one great granddaughter Stevie Hartley, one great grandson Brayden Collins, one son-in-law Theo Hambelton, one great great grandson Bray Bressie. Three sisters Ruby Allcorn, Freda Sallee, and Jeanette Smith. Four brothers Charles Sanders, Jeff Sanders, Lavern Sanders, and Deboyd Sanders.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, June 24, 2006, 10:00 am at Dora Assembly Of God with Brothers Fred Hamby and J.D. Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening 6-8 pm at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville. Music will be provided by Bryant River Gospel. Pallbearers Stan Newton, Scott Newton, Rod Wilson, Greg Smith, Doug Hambelton, and Matthew Collins. Honorary Pallbearers Keith Kamp, Kelly Lovan, Josh Moore, Chris Rodgers, Bob Volkerding, and Mark Warren. Memorials may be made to Children's Miracle Network, St. Louis Children's Hospital, or to the charity of your choice in care of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville.
