Lindel Ray (Dick) Mahan

Visitation services for Lindel Ray (Dick) Mahan, 64, of Pontiac, MO will be held Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Clinkingbeard Chapel in Gainesville, MO, with Pastor Gary Kinsey officiating. Visitation services will also be held later in the week at McDaniel Funeral Home in Sparta, IL with burial in the Tilden Cemetery.

Dick suffered a fatal heart attack June 28th, 2013 while swimming with his granddaughters, Nancy and Hailey, in Bull Shoals lake near Pontiac, MO.

Dick was born on July 3, 1948 at Dr. Hoerman's office in Gainesville, MO and was married to Charlene Joiner on March 3, 1968 in Monkey Run, AR. He was inducted into the Army shortly after their marriage and served in Viet Nam from January 1969- January 1970. Dick received five medals while in the army: The National Defense medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Bronze Star Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.

Dick worked for The World Color Press in both Sparta and Mt. Vernon, IL and for Von Hoffmann Printing in Owensville, MO. When he retired, he moved back to his beloved Pontiac. Dick and his wife, Charlene, built their country home near the home place where Dick was raised. He was a loving and dedicated family man. He loved the outdoors, the Cardinals and spending time with family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren.

Dick is survived by his wife, Charlene; two sons: Rick Zander & Sherry of Sparta, IL and Michael Mahan & Melora of Grand Island, NE; a daughter, Linda Cohoon & Scott of Bluford, IL ; nine grandchildren: Alex and Brett Zander, Megan Richardson, Courtney and Lindsey Cohoon and Brette, Noah, Hailey and Nancy Mahan; one brother, Corkey Mahan & Karen of Pontiac, MO; three sisters: Patsy (Mahan) Bastin of Hayesville, KS, Ladella (Mahan) Albright & Ronnie of Gassville, AR, and Julia (Mahan) Hodges & Gordon; three brother-in-laws: Bob Conner of Pontiac, MO, John Joiner & Kim and William Joiner and Diana of IL; a sister-in-law, Patricia Rezba and Willis also of IL and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Nancy (Owen) Mahan, one sister, Joan (Mahan) Conner, one brother, Billy Dean Mahan, one brother-in-law, Paul Bastin, one sister-in-law, Randa Mahan, and two special friends, Danny Morgan and Barry Amos. Dick will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
