Lizetta M. Roy, Harrisonville, MO
Lizetta Margaret Roy, 98 years, died at her home on May 5, 2011 in Harrisonville, MO surrounded by her children.
Lizetta was born February 10, 1913 in Goodhope, MO in Douglas County to James and Maudie (Anderson) Heard. Lizetta was the oldest daughter in a family of ten children, five boys and five girls.
These are her own words on her childhood, "To look back on my childhood, I had a great time. We didn't have a lot of worldly things, but plenty of love. Our home was near a clear stream, where us kids spent hours during the summer, after our chores were done. A big spring where we got water and kept our milk, butter and other things to cool. My Mom would save twine and make balls and the family would go in the meadow to play baseball. I grew up in a country school and was never tardy or missed a day. In those days our basketball court was outside. Basketball is still my favorite sport."
Mom met her husband, our Dad, Lawrence, at a basketball game. They were married on July 14, 1929. They had 58 wonderful years together when he died in 1987. They have eight children, all still living. Mom surrendered her life to the Lord in a little Baptist church in Baker, Montana in 1956. They lived numerous places, but Baker was always the favorite place in her memories.
Mom was a gardener. She said, "if we didn't grow it, we didn't have it."
She was a seamstress, made her own patterns and made most of the clothes we girls wore. She made a lot of quilts through the years. She was a natural when it came to running a household. She always knew the right words to say to her family. Mom taught Children's Sunday School and was involved in her church. We could say so much more because she was "so much more."
