Lloyd Wallace

Our Dad, Lloyd Wallace (89), passed away at 8:40PM on October 2nd, 2011. He was born on January 23rd, 1922 by the late Dow and Lilly Wallace. He was preceded in death by his wife Vera and his sisters Eloise, Geneva and Louise.

He is survived by his brothers Dean, Ted and Burvil, his oldest son Ron and his wife Judith, his son Randy and his wife Nedra and his youngest son Reggie. He is also survived by his grandchildren Josh Wallace, Rachel Wallace, Brett Wallace, Georgia Wallace, Rhian Wallace and Reyne Wallace. He also leaves behind many cousins, nephews, nieces and his dear friend and close companion of 8 years Vivian Louckes.

Dad served in the U.S.Navy during World War II and earned many honors. It was while he was on leave on December 4th, 1941 in San Diego that Dad married our wonderful mother Vera--just 3 days before the attack on Pearl Harbor. After the attack, Dad was immediately transported to the South Pacific to resume his duties.

After leaving the Navy after 8 years of service, he attended Southwest Missouri State University and earned his Bachelor of Science in Education. Afterwards he attended the University of Missouri in Columbia where he earned his Masters Degree in Social Work.


After college, Dad started his career in the Missouri State Welfare Service, starting as a caseworker and slowly moving upward to higher and more responsible positions. Dad finally retired from the State after serving as the Director of Welfare for the City of Saint Louis and for a brief period of time as the Assistant State Director of Welfare in Jefferson City. When Dad retired, he wanted to be closer to his southwestern Missouri roots. He and Mom moved to Springfield where they could be close to most of their family and friends. Lloyd was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Springfield, MO.

Dad was both a wonderful father to us and a wonderful husband to our Mom. Dad always loved watching the Cardinals, and in retirement also learned to love gardening and golf. As a young father, Dad continually stressed to us when we were very young and throughout our high school years that we needed to go to college so that we could be successful in life. He also taught us many things, including how to play baseball when we were young kids and even served as our coach and manager of our little league teams. Dad was a good man and a good father and we will miss him greatly forever.

Services to celebrate our Dad's life will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in the First General Baptist Church, (Walnut St.) Springfield, MO. with burial at 2:00 p.m. in the Lutie Cemetery, Theodosia, MO. with full military honors by Ava American Legion #112 & VFW #5993. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO. Officiating will be Pastor Dean Trivett. Memorials may be made to Charity of choice.
