Lula Mae Denney, 85 years, 5 months, and 6 days old, passed away on June 8, 2026 at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center in Ava, Missouri.

On January 2, 1941, Lula Mae was born in Douglas County, Missouri, to Randy and Mae (Burton) Frye. She grew up in Douglas County.

She started attending Frye School, a one room school house. Lula Mae graduated from Ava High School.

Lula and Vernon Denney were united in marriage on October 1, 1960, in Ava. Together they had two children, Jeff and Melissa.

Lula was a Christian and a member of the Ava General Baptist Church.

She began her working career at Ava Drug, where she met Vernon. She also worked at Rawlings Sporting Goods for many years, and then worked at Mercy Hospital and was a greeter at Wal-Mart.

Lula enjoyed baking, cooking, and decorating cakes. She loved roses. She also liked to embroider.

Lula was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon; two brothers, Jimmy Frye and Lawrence Frye(Norma); sister, Juanita Frye; infant grandson, Zephan; and nephew, Eric Frye.

Lula is survived by her children, Jeff Denney and Melissa Lawrence(Robert); seven grandchildren, Zimran, Zackry, Josh, Jessica, Jacob, Tawni, and Jessie; nine great-grandchildren with two on the way; siblings, Janice Spicer(Martin), Mary Ann Hammond(Jerry); and Glenda Crafton(Junior); and many neices, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Lula will be Friday, June 12, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Homes, Inc., Ava, Missouri. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 PM to service time. Burial will be in the Denney cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to Denney Cemetery or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
