MARLIN EUGENE MCGINNIS

Marlin Eugene McGinnis, 85, of Gainesville, MO passed to heaven on October 8, 2012 at the West Vue Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Plains, MO. He was born on January 7, 1927 in Mammoth, MO the son of Raymond F. and Iva (Hillhouse) McGinnis.


Marlin was a veteran, having proudly served his country in the United States Army, during World War II. He was united in marriage to Virginia Ann Hannaford on March 31, 1948, and to this union, four children were born. Virginia passed away on May 26, 1994 after 46 years of marriage. He then met and married Reba (Wells) Vaughn on January 12, 1999 after she had lost her husband of 45 years. They have been blessed with the time God has given them together.


Marlin was a retired maintenance worker with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDot) in Gainesville, MO. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. He was ordained as a General Baptist minister in 1953 and has preached and pastured all over Ozark County in many area churches. He was first and foremost, a man of God. He studied his bible daily, and never went to bed without saying his prayers. Marlin structured his life around his walk with God and was ever faithful on his journey. He was loved dearly and will be sadly missed by all.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Virginia; and three brothers. He is survived by his wife, Reba, of the home in Gainesville, MO; his children Gary McGinnis and wife Debbie, Randy McGinnis and wife Kelly, Deb Cotter and husband Pete all of West Plains, MO, and Tim McGinnis and wife Regina of Willard, MO; ten grandchildren, Shelly and Brian Johnson of West Plains, MO, Sandi and Jim Taylor of West Plains, Sunni and Rich Hoyt of Flippin, AR, Mindy and Adam Williams of West Plains, Gary and Kara McGinnis of West Plains, Todd and Mindy McGinnis of West Plains, Josh Cotter and Jacob Cotter of West Plains, Cain McGinnis and Levi McGinnis of Willard, MO; eleven great grandchildren; two brothers Dale McGinnis and wife Pat of Warsaw, MO and Doye McGinnis and wife Connie of Kansas City, KS; one sister Mary Sue McGinnis of Houston, TX; three sisters-in-law Flo Runion, Norma Hannaford and Edna Hannaford all of Gainesville, MO; and many special nieces and nephews.


Funeral services for Marlin will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2012 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel in Gainesville, MO with Bro. Dale Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Brushy Knob Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 9 a.m. to service time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Brushy Knob Cemetery and can be left at the funeral home.
