Mary Elizabeth Guthery, 87 years, passed to heaven on August 21, 2013 at her home with her daughter, Judy by her side from a short illness.
Elizabeth was born February 19, 1926 in Squires, MO to Robert "Bob" and Vergie L. (Walker) Spurlock.
Elizabeth was a lifelong resident of Douglas County.
On September 27, 1944 Elizabeth and Clyde Wilson were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, AR and to this union one daughter, Judy was born.
Elizabeth retired from working at Rawlings Sporting Goods in Ava for 28 years. She had also worked at The Highway House Cafe until she was 78 years old.
On August 17, 2003 Elizabeth and Delmar Guthery were united in marriage in Ava, MO. They enjoyed traveling together.
Elizabeth was a Christian and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Ava. She enjoyed music and loved to sing and play her guitar. Elizabeth was a joy to be with. She was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother and a friend too many.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clyde in 2000, her granddaughter, Kelly Morpeth and grand son-in-law, Ed Morpeth, her husband, Delmar Guthery, three sisters; Elsie Coy, Norma Rymer and Bobbie Gillespie, a brother, Robert Spurlock, three half brothers; Howard Spurlock, John Turner and Bernie Turner.
Elizabeth is survived by one daughter & husband, Judith "Judy" & Norman Mitchell, Ava,MO, two granddaughters; Kristi Payne, Ava, MO and Dawn Huff and husband, Tim, Fordland, MO, ten great grandchildren; Cory & Andy Bengston and Levi & Ashley Morpeth all of Ava, Valerie McCoy, Farmington, MO, Brianna Morpeth, Bucyrus, MO, Amanda & Mackenzie Payne and Gabriel Jackson all of Ava, Jesse & Shanta Payne, Yukon, OK, Bo & Haden Huff, Fordland, MO, four great great grandchildren; Dane and Dylan McCoy, Braxton Morpeth and Elijah Bengston and two on-the-way, two sisters; Gerry Degase, Ava, MO and Faye Ford, one half brother, Norman Spurlock, Iowa, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Elizabeth will be Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation will be Sat. from 1:00 p.m. to service time in the funeral home.Officiating will be Rev. Robert Roberts. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, American Red Cross or Alzheimers Assoc.
