Nettie Mae Atchison

Nettie Mae Atchison, 73 years, 3 months, 2 days old, passed away on January 5, 2017 at her home.

Nettie was born October 3, 1943 in Douglas County, MO to Oren and Mildred (Barnes) Atchison.

Nettie was a Vice President of the United Savings Bank in Springfield, MO as a Loan Officer. She had also worked many years in Real Estate and Escrow closings.

In 1963 Nettie and Huey Higgins were united in marriage in Miami, OK
and to this union three children were born.


Nettie was a Christian and a member of St. Francis Anglican Episcopal Church in Ava. Nettie had a passion for Native American History and Culture and considered the Grand Canyon her favorite place on earth.
She enjoyed horseback riding, being in the outdoors, and most of all being with her family and especially her grand and great grandchildren!

Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Mildred.

Nettie is survived by three children, a daughter, Darlys Wynn, Mansfield, MO, two sons, David Higgins, Springfield, MO, and Daniel, and wife Sherri Higgins, Ozark, MO, seven grandchildren, Amanda and Rob Selvidge, Allyson Rokusek, Austin Rokusek, Sarah Wynn, Sean Randall, and Jaimee Randall, three great grandchildren, Zayne, Mason, and Gracelyn, five siblings, Emmalyn Stephens, Vada Swearingen, Ruth Stotts, Katy Gifford, and Lonnie Atchison, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.


A Private Memorial service for Nettie will be held Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Francis Anglican Episcopal Church in Ava. Officiating will be Bishop Glen Hartley. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the church, St. Francis Anglican Episcopal, Rt. 1, Box 403, Ava, MO 65608. Cremation services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO.
