Norma Constance "Connie" Brown
Norma Constance Brown, 88, of Theodosia, MO passed away on September 17, 2014 at her residence. She was born August 4, 1926 in Highriver, Alberta, Canada to James and Ada Yerxa. Her early years were growing up in Blackie, Alberta, Canada with four sisters and one brother in a Presbyterian family.
Eventually they moved to Banff, Alberta, Canada where her parents built Castle Village: a series of log cabins for tourist to stay during the summer months. In September of each year they traveled to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to spend the winter.
One Fall while closing up Castle Village, Connie was high on a ladder cleaning windows when Etsel Bob Brown from Lutie, MO pulled into the gas station. He followed her to Vancouver, courting her. They married May 7, 1946 in Pendleton, Oregon and they married again September 8, 1946 in Banff, Canada due to her mother didn't trust U.S. laws.
They had five sons: Etsel, Donald, Robert, Scott and Paul. She was a homemaker, gardener and did crafts. She attended the United Methodist Church in Kennewick, Washington before moving to Theodosia with family and attending True Hope General Baptist Church.
She worked for Boeing during World War II, ran and worked at the Theodosia Marina Restaurant during the 50's and worked the voting polls.
She was a member of TOPS and the audonbon for birds. She donated to the Veterans and the American Indians.
She was preceded in death by sons: Etsel and Donald; spouse Etsel Bob Brown; two sisters, Jeanne And Vera.
She is survived by sons: Robert Brown and wife, Marilyn of Kennewick, WA, Scott Brown and wife, Wanda, of Theodosia, MO, Paul Brown and wife, Debra, of Lyle WA and Step-son Ralph Brown and wife, Carryl, of Gainesville, MO; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother in Canada.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the True Hope General Baptist Church in Theodosia, MO with Doyle Turner officiating. Arrangements are by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
