Evelyn Taylor
Ava, MO
Norma Evelyn Taylor, 82 years, 11 months, and 29 days old, held hands with God after saying goodbye to her family and beloved home on earth on February 26, 2015.
Evelyn was born February 28, 1932 in Theodosia, MO down on Pond Fork to Roy and Lennie (Friend) Ellison. She graduated from Gainesville High School and attended Southwest Missouri State University with two of her sisters. She and her sisters later taught school in the surrounding rural communities.
In 1957 Evelyn and Billie Joe Taylor (son of T.T. and Girlie Taylor) were united in marriage in San Antonio, TX. Evelyn traveled the world as an Air Force wife, living both in Japan and Hawaii and finally settling later in Ava to raise her children, Greg and Holly.
Serving the community, Evelyn worked as the License Bureau Agent for three counties, Dept. of Human Services, Caregiver to many, both in Oklahoma and the Ava area. She was a devoted Christian her entire life and a staunch Democrat, attending every meeting possible and serving at election polls. Evelyn was a member of the local Democrat Committee and a member of the Ava General Baptist Church.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Pauline League, Aldena Taylor and baby sister, Laverne, three brothers-in-law, Clifford League, George Taylor and James "Cletus" Hammond and one son-in-law, Larry Chambers.
Evelyn is survived by two children, Greg Taylor, Ava, MO and Holly Chambers, Oklahoma City, OK, four grandchildren, Brandon Sallee, and wife Tatum, Nick Denewellis, Chase and Rachel Taylor, one great grandson, Hayes Kamm Sallee, one sister, Nora Hammond, Wichita, KS, one nephew, Doug Taylor, Wichita, KS and other relatives and friends.
Evelyn's greatest accomplishment was instilling her faith in Christ and teaching her children about God. We are pleased to know she is now walking on streets of gold while observing magnificence with a smile on her face!
Graveside services for Evelyn will be Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lutie Cemetery, Theodosia, MO. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO. Officiating will be Pastor Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association.
