Nuel Francis Cockrum, 86 years, 8 months, and 24 days old, passed away on January 4, 2023 at his home with family by his side.
Nuel was born April 11, 1936 in Ozark County, MO to Francis Matthew and Rachel Ann (Strong) Cockrum.
Nuel was raised and had lived in the Brixey community most of his life. He was an U.S. Army Veteran sharp shooter and served during the Korean War and also served in Germany.
On March 4, 1965 Nuel and Zelma Miller were united in marriage in Ozark County, MO and to this union they were blessed with three children.
He worked with the Road & Bridge Construction until his illness prevented him from working. Nuel was a Christian and had been baptized. He loved riding his horses and he made sure his family knew how to ride also! He adored and loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter Barbara Cockrum; three sisters, Francelene, Lucille and Geneva; four brothers, Troy, Ray, Don and Loren.
Nuel is survived by his wife Zelma; his daughters Sherry (Bud) Hayes, Sharolette (Scott) Pendergrass, and Susan Cockrum; nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Nuel will be Monday, Jan. 9, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO with burial following in the Smith Chapel Cemetery on N Hwy. in Gainesville, MO with military honors by the Ava Troy Herd American Legion #112 and U.S. Army Detail. Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 8 th from 3:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. in the funeral home.
Officiating will be Pastor Stan Collins. Memorials may be made to the Smith Chapel Cemetery.
