Ava, MO
Opal A. Singleton, 97 years, 4 months, and 5 days old, passed to Heaven on August 31, 2015 at Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare, Ava, MO.
Opal was born April 26, 1918 in Rippee, MO in Douglas County to John Boulder and Sarah Ann (Strong) Rippee.
Opal was a life long resident of the Ava community. On September 28, 1935 Opal and Willis "Bill" Singleton were united in marriage in Ava, MO and to this union three children were born.
Opal was a dairy and beef Farmer working alongside her husband Bill for many years. She also had worked at Rawlings Sporting Goods in Ava for about 19 years. She was Christian and of the Baptist faith. She was proud of being a charter member of the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association. Opal enjoyed riding with her husband and showing their fox trotting horses. Some of her hobbies were, crocheting, gardening and playing music. Opal loved cooking for her family and looked forward to family gatherings! She especially enjoyed her time with all her grandchildren and great and great great grandchildren. Opal was a beloved mother and grandmother!
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willis "Bill" in 1994, her son, Willis "Buster" Singleton, an infant son, Donald Lee and 13 brothers and sisters.
Opal is survived by her daughter and husband, Shirley & Floyd Smith, Ava, MO, daughter –in- law, Jeanne Cox, Ava, MO, four grandchildren; Rick Smith, Chris Singleton, Jackie Davis and Joy Davis, 10 great grandchildren; David Smith, Lindsey Wade, Lance Singleton, Emily Whistance, Hailey Richards, Wyatt Davis, Caitlin Patterson, Jenna Davis, Jessie Davis and Buster Davis, 11 great great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, several other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Opal will be Sat., Sept. 5, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Ava Cemetery, Ava, MO. Visitation will be Sat. from 9:30 a.m. to service time in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
