Quentin Hansen "Buck" Mahan
Ava, MO
Quentin Hansen Mahan, 91 years, passed away on February 13, 2011 at Cox Medical Center South, Springfield, MO with his family by his side.
"Buck" was born May 23, 1919 in Pond Fork, MO youngest of 13 children to Huston and Amanda (Simpson) Mahan.
"Buck" was a resident of Ava for twelve years moving from California. He had moved to CA to work in the 1930's, finding employment with the Campbell Soup Co., in Sacramento as a maintenance mechanic and retired with nearly 40 years with that company. He had also played on his farm in Elk Grove, CA, raising registered quarter horses, sheep and cattle. "Buck" lived and returned to MO and then to OK before returning to MO in 1998.
In 1946 "Buck" and Barbara Edmonds were united in marriage and to this union two children were born. She preceded in death in 1997. On June 10, 1998 "Buck" and Thelma Ruth Graves were united in marriage.
"Buck" loved traveling, singing quartet, fishing, hunting and playing the harmonica. He attended the Walnut Grove General Baptist Church and truly enjoyed singing hymns.
"Buck" was preceded by his parents, twelve brothers and sisters.
"Buck" is survived by his wife, Thelma Ruth Mahan, Ava, MO, two children and their spouses, Renee & Ron Johnson, Rose, OK and Steven & Patricia Mahan, Sacramento, CA, three grandchildren, Eric Johnson, Tony Johnson and Amber Burget, nine great grandchildren, two step children, Janice Stout and Gary Graves, four step grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation/Memorial for "Buck" will be Thursday, February 17, 2011, 6:00 P.M. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO. Burial of cremains will be Saturday, 2:00 p.m. at Elm Cemetery in Leach, OK. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Roberts. Memorials may be made to Walnut Grove General Baptist Church, Ava, MO or First Baptist Church, Leach, OK.
