Robert Royce Bishop, 92 years, passed away on February 21, 2025, at his home in Ava, Missouri. His family was by his side.
On December 5, 1932, Bob was born in North Baltimore, Ohio to William Casper and Mabel Bishop.
Bob enlisted in the Ohio National Guard right out of High School. He later served his country in the U.S. Army as Sergeant First Class during the Korean War from 1952 to 1953.
Bob graduated from The Ohio State University and later earned his Masters Degree there in Bovine Genetics and Reproduction. He worked for 16 years in research for The Ohio State University. He then moved west and started his work with the Extension Service in Washington and Colorado.
After his retirement, he became a real estate broker with United Country Realtors.
On January 24, 2006, Robert and Laura Penne were united in marriage in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Bob and Laura together had a ranch in New Mexico where they raised horses, mules, and Longhorn cattle.
Bob was a life long horseman, holding judging cards and judging Appaloosa, Pinto, Haflinger, 4H, and Mule Shows. He judged the Ft. Worth and Denver Stock Shows, and The Ohio State Fair 4H Horse Shows. Bob participated in the SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) gun competitions for many years.
Bob was a Christian and a member of the Cold Creek Cowboy Church in Ava.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister Joyce Carles and infant sister, Alice; and one brother, William Bishop.
He is survived by his wife, Laura; children, Sandy Reed and fiance, Walter Fetzer, and Tom Bishop and wife, Joyce; four grandchildren; great grandchildren; a sister, Linda Chesaux; extended family and many friends.
Memorial graveside services for Robert will be Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road, Springfield, MO 65804 with full military honors. Officiating will be Pastor John Williams. Family requests memorials to The Quilts of Valor, Ava Chapter. Donations can be sent to funeral home.
