Robert George Hopkins
Robert George "Bob" Hopkins, 73, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at his home in Gainesville, MO. He was born on June 15, 1942 in Wilmot, South Dakota to William and Mable (Davis) Hopkins.
Bob graduated from Wilmot High School in South Dakota before joining the United States Navy in February of 1963. He proudly served his country for four years aboard the USS Maury, the USS Constellation and was stationed in the Great Lakes.
In August of 1965, Bob was united in marriage to Margaret "Marge" Van Stralen.
After his honorable discharge, Bob began working at Dakota Granite in Milbank, SD and later opened his own business, Bob's Motor Repair. After moving to Riverside, CA he worked for Neumann Construction for several years. The couple then moved to the Ozarks in 1996 and settled just south of Gainesville, MO. Bob went to work for Creative Paint in Mountain Home, AR until his retirement. Since retirement, Bob and Marge have enjoyed spending time together at their Howards Ridge home.
Bob leaves behind his wife, Marge Hopkins; three children: Dennis Hopkins of Keller, TX, Julie Hopkins of Hurst, TX, Bill (Karen) Hopkins of Fairfield, CA; two grand children Joe and Sara Hopkins; one sister, Judy Hopkins of Plymouth, MN, four sister in-laws, Carol Hopkins, Marrianne Lantis, Pat (Ed Hart) Van Stralen, Charlotte Calvin; three brother in-laws, Frank (Cathy) Van Stralen, Mike Van Stralen, Steve Van Stralen, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; William and Mable (Davis) Hopkins; one son, Jeffrey Hopkins; one sister, Marjorie Huebner; one brother, Irvin Hopkins; two brothers-in-law, Dale Lantis and Dan Van Stralen; and two sisters-in-law, Rose Van Stralen and Rita Van Stralen.
A Memorial service with Full Military Honors will be held Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St Williams Catholic Church, Highway 160, Gainesville, MO 65655. Arrangements are by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
