Robert McFarland, Gainesville, MO, passed away on December 26, 2008 at the Gainesville Health Care Center from complications of Alzheimer's disease. He was 87. Born in Chicago on December 29, 1920, Mr. McFarland was the son of the late Charles and Catherine McFarland also of Chicago.
Mr. McFarland worked as a HVAC technician for Walgreens until he retired in 1988. He was a WWII Navy veteran. After his retirement he volunteered to teach wood carving at elementary after school programs in his native Illinois until his sight started to fail. Mr. McFarland was a very caring man who always put his family first.
He is survived by one sister Shirley D'Agostino from Chicago, a daughter Kathleen McFarland of Wasola, three grandchildren, Heather Mitchell of Ava, Sarah Wolfe of Wasola and Silver Wolfe of Germantown, Wisconsin. He has three great grandchildren Alec Erickson of Wisconsin and Genevieve and Azuriah Wolfe of Wasola.
Mr. McFarland was preceded in death by his parents, a son Robert and his wife Josephine and three sisters and two brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO with Dale Roberts officiating. Interment will be in Chicago, IL in the spring.
