He was born Jan. 27, 1944, in Brockton, Mass., the oldest of three sons born to Loren Carle "Pat" Patterson and Marjorie Eleanor Stoddard Patterson. After graduating from Parkview High School in Springfield, he joined the Marine Corps and was stationed at Twenty-nine Palms, Calif. In 1983, he accepted a teaching job at Tulsa Junior College, where he taught until 2000. In 2001 he returned to TJC and taught classes until the day of his death.

Mr. Patterson considered his family as his proudest accomplishment, but he also took pride in serving more than 40 years as a Mason and in completing the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii and competing in power-lifting competitions until 2012.

He is survived by his daughters: Sherri Beasley and husband Jerry of Gainesville and Deanna Patterson, all of Gainesville; granddaughter Haley Beasley of Gainesville; brothers Paul Patterson and wife Diann of Kansas and Steve Patterson and wife Cathy of Colorado; "adopted brothers" Bill and Ronnie Deck of Springfield; former wife, Louise Patterson and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
