Robert John Simms Sr, 88, of Hazelwood, MO, formerly of Pontiac, passed away October 27, 2019 at his residence. He was born February 13, 1931 in St Louis, MO to Warren and Margaret "Peggy" (Tessler) Simms.
On June 15, 1958 Robert was united in marriage to Donna Jean Brower. To this union one son was born, Robert Simms Jr.
Robert Sr was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps Reserve (Lambert Field) and served in the Korean War. He held active duty from 01/28/1952 to 01/14/1954 and achieved the rank of Corporal.
Officer Robert J. Simms, DSN 3096, received his commission on 06/30/1958. After the academy Officer Simms held assignments in the 12th and 7th districts. Officer Simms resigned his commission on 03/24/1962 to seek gainful employment in the private sector. Officer Simms was reappointed on 12/05/1962 and served in the following districts and specialized divisions. They were the 9th, Tactical Crime Deployment Unit, Warrant Section, Prisoner Processing Division, Warrant / Fugitive Section, Prisoner Processing Division, 4th, 7th, Special Operations Division, and finally the 6th district. Officer Simms resigned on 10/18/1968 to seek employment in the private sector at McDonnell-Douglas Corporation. Officer Simms followed in the footsteps of his father SLMPD/retired Officer Warren L. Simms, DSN 2126, and became a second generation law enforcement officer to join the ranks of the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Officer Simms served 9 years, 7 months, and 7 days of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife Mrs. Donna Jean (nee Brower) Simms and his parents Warren and Peggy Simms. He is survived by his son Robert "Bob" Simms Jr of Ferguson, MO and two granddaughters Shanna Marie and Margaret Ann.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO with Jeff Dotson officiating. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to service time. Burial with Full Military Honors will be in the Pontiac Cemetery, Pontiac, MO. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
