Robert "Bob" Lowell Young, 79, of Gainesville, MO passed away peacefully on January 19th, 2021 at Baxter Regional Medical Center with Kay and his girls by his side. He was born on April 25, 1941 in Brixey, MO to Vilas "Skinny" and Evelyn (Stout) Young.
Bob worked for many years in St. Louis as a carpet layer and airplane mechanic. He left the big city and came home to Brixey and worked for Rockbridge Trout Ranch. On August 11, 1979 he was united in marriage to Kay Rackley. That day a blended family of Bob's son Joe and Kay's three young girls was created. After his marriage to Kay, he started working for Town & Country Supermarket until his health forced him to retire almost 30 years later. He was baptized into Christ at an early age and was a longtime member of the Gainesville Church of Christ.
Bob was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He enjoyed going to the games at Busch Stadium, listening to them on the radio, and keeping the stats in his own journals back home. He loved following his grandkids, nieces, and nephews around to all of their sporting events. In the off season, he spent many hours putting together jigsaw puzzles. Bob and Kay enjoyed taking scenic drives, especially through Caney Mountain Refuge, looking for wildlife.
He is survived by his wife Kay, of the home, his son Joe Young of Conway, AR, and daughters Melinda (John) Abraham of Gainesville, Angie (Brian) Calvert of Harrison, AR, and Hope (Corey) Hillhouse of Gainesville. Grandchildren SSgt USAF Gage, currently deployed overseas, (Christi) Calvert of Tinker AFB, OKC, OK, Alyssa (Andrew) Eller of North Little Rock, AR, Rebecca (Cayce) Gosdin, Lauren Hillhouse, Logan Hillhouse, and Dylan Abraham all of Gainesville, and Grant Calvert of Harrison, AR. Great grandchildren Scarlett Calvert and Clark Calvert of Tinker AFB, OKC, OK. Sister-in-law Barbara (Don) Luna, Patty (Rex) Donley, Peggy (Doyle) Johnson of Gainesville, and Steve (Jenny) Rackley of Nixa, MO. His nieces Kathy (Phil) Eudaly, Tena (Mike) Duncan, Nancy (Jeff) Davis, and Suzanne (Rick) Ott.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty Owens, his brother-in-law Mearl Owens, and his grandson Matt Abraham.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Matt Abraham Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Smith Chapel Cemetery.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Gainesville Church of Christ with Halbert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be come-and-go from Noon to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2021 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO with family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
