Roy Murrill, 88 years, 5 months, 10 days old, passed away on March 24, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO with his family by his side.
Roy was born October 14, 1928 in Thornfield, MO to Brownlow and Birdie (Hylton) Murrill. He was the youngest of six children.
Roy was retired from working with the Ozark County, MO Road & Bridge District for over 20 years. Prior to that he was farmer and hauled milk for Kraft.
Roy and Pauline Naugle were united in marriage at Wasola, MO.
Roy was a Christian and a member of the Thornfield Southern Baptist Church where he played guitar and led music for over 30 years.
He enjoyed hunting and running his fox hounds. He loved singing and playing bluegrass music on his Martin guitar. Every Wednesday morning you would find him at Gib & Todd's Barber Shop in Ava, MO, pickin' and grinnin' at their weekly jam session. Roy never met a stranger and was always able to strike up a conversation about dogs, music, church, or family. He was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed!
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, and five siblings.
Roy is survived by his loving wife, Pauline of the home in Ava, four children, Dan Murrill and Barbara, Hillsboro, MO, Gaylene Gregory and Paul, Ozark, MO, Calvin Murrill and Gloria, Springfield, MO, and Dallas Murrill and Elaine, Ava, MO, six grandchildren, Wayne, Bob, Becky, Darin, Coby, and Jill, 15 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren, and extended family and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Roy will be Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO with burial following in the Thornfield Cemetery, Thornfield, MO. Visitation will be Monday, March 27th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Brother Leonard Hart. Memorials may be made to Thornfield Southern Baptist Church, Thornfield, MO.
