Obituary

SANDRA KATHERINE BAKER MARTIN

Sandra Martin, 74, of Gainesville, MO passed away on September 1, 2014 at her residence. She was born on August 16, 1940 in Streator, IL, the daughter of Don and Maxine (Connell) Hawksley.

After completing her education at Oakland Academy of Arts & Sciences (as she referred to it) and Mountain Home High School, Sandy left the Ozarks just long enough to complete her degree in Pharmacy from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in St. Louis, MO. She did have some fun while studying – worked part-time at Saks 5th Ave. Dept. Store selling hats! She returned to the Mountain Home area to help manage her family's Oakland, AR boat dock and worked for seven years at Baxter Health Care in Mountain Home becoming their first female administrator. Sandy then moved to Gainesville, MO, purchasing the Lister Drug Store and re-naming it Baker Drug. She served Ozark County as the only pharmacist for 27 years. She retired in 1997.

Sandra accepted Christ in 2000 and was baptized. She grew in her faith, held Bible Studies in her home and was a willing witness to anyone who would listen. Her positive attitude toward life was always apparent to all and with a kind, caring heart she reached out and made lives better by her touch. She loved the Ozarks people. She had great pride and joy in her daughter Elizabeth. Her day was good when she and Buddy (her devoted companion) would circle the Gainesville square on the way back home and she could relive all the old, precious memories.

Sandra is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Baker of Fayetteville, AR; her companion Buddy Festervand of Gainesville, MO; one sister Judy Funderburg of Springdale, AR; and one brother Don Hawksley of Rogers, AR. She was preceded in death by her parents Don and Maxine Hawksley; and one brother James Hawksley.

A Memorial Service for Sandra will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Gainesville First Baptist Church, Gainesville, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org. Arrangements are by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO. Online condolences may be made to www.clinkingbeardfuneralhome.com.
