Sherman Eldridge Humphrey

Sherman Eldridge Humphrey, 77 years, passed to heaven on August 26, 2009 at his home with his family by his side.

Sherman was born June 10, 1932 in Elizabethtown, KY to Leslie and Hattie (Vincent) Humphrey.

On December 22, 1980, Sherman and Dorothy (Gilmore) Stevens were united in marriage in Rio Dell, CA. Sherman was a resident of the Ava community since 1981 moving from Rio Dell, CA. He worked as a Laborer and Forman with a CA highway construction co. He was a Christian and served as a Pentecostal Minister. When he moved to Ava, he worked for the Marvin Barnes Co. for several years and later worked with Bob Miller in the heating and cooling business. Sherman enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.


Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Clara Brewer and an infant brother.


Sherman is survived by his wife, Dorothy Humphrey, Ava, MO, five children, Linda & Raymond Brooks, Fort Bragg, CA, Junior & Sandy Humphrey, Shasta Lake, CA, Sherry Humphrey, Clear Lake, CA, Sheila McCarty, Clear Lake, CA, Leslie & Karen Humphrey, Rogers, AR,five step children, Rita Peppers, Olla, LA, Charles & Angie Wilkes, Rio Dell, CA, Laura & Allen Edwards, Ava, MO, Danny & Sharold Stevens and Lenore Stevens, Ava, MO, two grandsons sons, Charles & Darrell Stevens, whom, Sherman & Dorothy both raised, numerous grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, three sisters, Thelma, Edna and Louise.


Graveside services for Sherman will be Sat., Aug. 29, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at the Arno Cemetery, Ava, MO. Officiating will be Chaplain Roger Flint. Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO.
