Sylvia Gray Vogt Freeman, 89, a resident of Bettendorf Health Care, Bettendorf, Iowa , formerly of Ava, Missouri , passed away Feb. 8, 2008 at the center.

Sylvia Gray Vogt Freeman was born March 11, 1918 in Douglas County, Missouri, the daughter of G. C. and Victoria (McCubbins) Vogt. Her mother died that same year. Sylvia then grew up in the home of her grandparents, L.P. and Emmaline Vogt of the Vera Cruz and Evans community. On October 7, 1936, she was united in marriage to Raymond Freeman. He preceded her in death on February 22, 1996.

Sylvia spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, endearing herself to all who knew her. She lived on the same farm for seventy years, prior to moving to Davenport, Iowa, to live near her family following the death of her husband. She was an accomplished seamstress from a very young age, but most of all she enjoyed quilting.

She attended the Evans Church in Missouri and Grandview Baptist Church in Davenport as long as she was able. She enjoyed all the church services offered at Bettendorf Health Care.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce and Lyndon Gheer, of Davenport, Iowa, her sons, Jack and Carolyn Freeman of Sebring Florida, Roy Freeman, of East Moline, Illinois; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Myrl Cox, of Ava, Pauline Villaneuva and Veria Hughes of Singer, CA, and Fern Cantrell of Niangua, Mo; one sister-in-law, Helen Dixon, of Great Bend, Ks.

In addition to her husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, one brother and six sisters.

Services will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with Rev Freeda Holt officiating. Interment will follow in the Brushy Knob Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 1:00 P.M. until service time.
