Tom Harris, 78 years, 6 months, and 23 days old, passed away on March 10, 2014 at his home with his wife and all his family by his side.

Tom was born August 18, 1935 in Ellsworth, WI to Mark Thomas and Margaret Isabelle (Ryan) Harris. He graduated from Red Wing Minnesota High School.

On October 26, 1956, Tom and Rose Marie Bien were united in marriage at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Durand, WI and to this union nine children were born.

Tom was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Ava for 42 years. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus.

He was a retired Maintenance Supervisor of Emerson Electric in Ava for over 20 years. In his earlier years, he was employed by Central Research Laboratories in Red Wing, MN. He was also Supervisor at Riveria Kitchens in Red Wing.

Tom loved dirt track racing, sailing, carving, fishing, reading, singing, and most of all sharing his gift of gab and jokes. And above all, he loved spending time with his wonderful loving family. Tom was a proud Irishman!

Tom was preceded by his parents; three children; Michael, Catherine and Carol; two brothers; Virgil and John; two sisters; Elaine Carlson and Betty Freij.


Tom is survived by his wife, Rose Harris ("Granny Poke") Ava, MO, six children and their spouses; Dawn & Kenneth Keith, Willard, MO, Scott & Kima Harris, Mansfield, MO, Patty Wettern, Lake City, MN, Margaret & Bob Mason, Strafford, MO, Mindy & Jeff Lems, Billings, MO and Tussy & T.J. Schmacht, Thornton, CO, 23 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, one sister and husband, Joanne & Tom Keute, Lake City, MN, many nieces, nephews and all the adopted children and grandchildren.

Funeral Mass for Tom will be Sat. March 15, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Ava with Father Paul Wightman officiating. For all those who knew and loved Tom there will be a celebration of life in St. Leo's Church Hall, Sat. at 11:30 a.m. The Holy Rosary will be Friday 5:00 p.m. in St. Leo's Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to Neighbor Helping Neighbor, c/o Lou Williams, P.O. Box 1011, Ava, MO 65608. Cremation services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO.
