Obituary

VADA MILDRED SMITH

Funeral services for Vada Smith will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel in Gainesville, MO. A visitation is planned by the family for Sunday, January 6th at Mrs. Smith's home near Thornfield, MO from 1-4 p.m. Burial will be at the Griffith Cemetery in Longrun, MO.

Vada Smith passed away on January 3, 2013 at her residence. She was born January 2, 1922 at Chadwick, MO the daughter of James Riley and Alta Bertha (Stockton) Silvey. She then moved with her parents, brothers and sisters to Longrun, MO; growing up in the Glade Top Trail area.

She was a homemaker, a farmer, and loved being outside. She loved hunting, fishing, horses, and cattle, and all the work involved with living on a farm. She enjoyed her home, loved gardening, taking care of her yard, sewing, making clothes for her granddaughters, quilting, cooking, bluegrass and gospel music and talking to her friends on the phone.

Vada was married to Ansel Griffith of Longrun, MO from December 27, 1941 until his death in 1973. She was married later to Perry Smith who preceded her in death. Vada was a Baptist, a member of the Longrun General Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Theodosia Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her daughter, Alta Griffith High and husband Ron of Wasola, MO; granddaughters Lori High of Columbia, MO, Trisha High of Gainesville, MO, grandson Darell High of Raytown, MO; great grandson Curt High of Rayville, MO; special friend Dick Robertson of Ozark, MO; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Vada was preceded in death by her parents, James Riley and Alta Bertha Stockton Silvey; her sister Beulah Pellham; brothers Earl, Stirling (Doc), Merl, Jesse and Olin Silvey; and great grandson David High.
