VELDA IRENE (KASTNING) MORRISON
Velda Morrison, 92, of Gainesville, MO passed to heaven on September 12, 2012 at the Gainesville Healthcare Center. She was born on March 3, 1920 in Brixey, MO the daughter of Willie and Minnie (Smith) Kastning.
Velda grew up in Brixey and was baptized at an early age. She was united in marriage to Aaron B. Morrison on October 23, 1938 in the Smith Chapel area in rural Ozark County. She was a homemaker by every sense of the word. It was a job she took great pride in doing. She did everything there was to do in and around the house, from raising a garden to hauling hay in the summertime. She was hands-on with every aspect of life on the farm. Not only was she respected for her hard work, she was also known for her excellent memory. Velda was the one to come to for any genealogical information. She could remember all of her neighbor's ages, birthdates, family names, their relation, etc… She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, the best mother-in-law, and friend. Velda was a Christian and member of the Smith Chapel Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Minnie Kastning; one sister, Audrey Cook; one brother, Doyle Kastning; and two infant children.
She is survived by her husband, Aaron B. Morrison of the home in Gainesville; one son Leroy Morrison and his wife Norma of Gainesville, MO; two grandchildren, James A. Morrison and Rita Porter; three great grandchildren, Michael, Casey and Serenity; one sister-in-law Patricia Kastning of Salesville, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Smith Chapel Church of Christ with Vic Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Smith Chapel Cemetery or to Fair Haven Children's Home.
