Velma Lenore Chappell, 98 years, passed to heaven on September 7, 2009.
Velma was born March 4, 1911 in Ava, MO to Henry and Mertie (Davis) McFarlin.
Velma and Claude Chappell were united in marriage June 30, 1930 in Wellington, KS and to this union two children were born. Velma and Claude lived in Augusta, KS for 14 years. They returned to Ava in 1944 and then moved to IL in 1948. They returned to Ava in 1966 to retire.
Velma was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church in Augusta. When returning to Ava she attended the Star Chapel. Velma was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Augusta, KS. Velma enjoyed cooking for her family and gardening. She loved her family and especially delighted in having her grandchildren visit.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Claude, one son, Lloyd Chappell, three brothers, Robert, Neil and Wesley McFarlin, four sisters, Juanita, Nancy, Mae and Cecil, a grandson, Edward Brown, a great granddaughter, April King and one great grandson, Aaron Jewell.
Velma is survived by one daughter, Donna Schropp, Ava, MO, eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren, some great great grandchildren,
one sister, Betty Newberry, Ava, MO, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for Velma will be Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Whites Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 11, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO. Officiating will be Rev. Larry Vinson. Memorials may be made to the Whites Creek Cemetery.
