Verla Jo Cornelius

Mansfield, Missouri

Verla Jo Cornelius, 55 years, 8 months, 4 days old, passed peacefully to Heaven on May 30, 2025.  She was surrounded by family.

On September 26, 1969, Jo was born  in Springfield, MO to Verlin and Viola (Peterson) Hall. She was born on her Dad's birthday and she was always quite the Daddy's girl.

She was raised in the Ava and Mansfield communities.

On November 22, 1986, Jo and Jeffery Cornelius were united in marriage at Mansfield, MO and were blessed with two sons, Josh and Jason.

Jo worked for the Wright County Courthouse as a Court Clerk for over 10 years. Prior to this she worked as a Real Estate Agent for Century 21.

Jo loved her family more than anything. She loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, four wheeling, and jeeping. She treasured family get togethers and was always camera ready to capture the moments. She loved being with her family and friends and was always up for a card game.

She lit up any room that she walked into. Jo will be greatly missed by so many.

Jo was a member of the Cold Creek Cowboy Church of Ava, MO. She held tight to her unshakeable faith every step of the way.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Viola; her grandparents; and her father-in-law, Jackie Cornelius.

Jo is survived by her husband, Jeff; her father and step mother Verlin and Jackie Hall; her sons, Josh Cornelius and Kalynn, and Jason Cornelius; her mother-in-law, Connie Cornelius; honorary grandchildren, Audrey, Jackie, Dalton, Corbin, and Landon; her sister, Vickie Toman and husband, Charles; two step brothers, Phillip Matney and wife, Sondra and Brian Matney and wife, Brenda; numerous aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host of other relatives and very dear friends.

Funeral services for Jo will be Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at the Cold Creek Cowboy Church, 18591 N. Highway 5, Ava, MO with burial following at the Dyer Cemetery, Ava. Visitation will be prior to the service at 1:00 P.M. at the church. Officiating will be Pastor John Williams and Pastor Buddy Boyd. Memorials may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses. Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO.
