Vernie Jean Brooke, 88 years, 1 month, and 21 days old, passed away on, July 3, 2026, at Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri with her family by her side.
Vernie was born May 12, 1938, in Tulare, California to Charlie and Pearlee (Vickers) Waller. She later met the love of her life, L.Z. Wayne Brooke in Woodlake, California. Their love story led to marriage on December 7, 1962, beginning a life together built on love, family, and devotion.
After their marriage, Vernie and L.Z. made their home in Mansfield, Missouri, where they raised their three daughters: Joy Stearnes (Mike), Donna Erisman, and Connie Brooke. Together they built a life centered around faith, family, creating a home filled with love and lasting memories.
She was a hardworking woman throughout her life. She was known as a wonderful upholsterer, a craft that reflected her dedication, skill, and strong work ethic. She also worked at 4 Star True Value Hardware in Seymour, Missouri, where she was known for her commitment and care in serving others. Her joy was found in being a homemaker.
Faith was an important part of Vernie’s life. She became member of the Church of The Nazarene in Mansfield in 1965 where she found comfort, fellowship, and strength among her church family. On January 6, 2026, Vernie rededicated her life to Christ bringing her renewed peace and comfort.
Above all else she lived for her family, especially her granchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her tremendous joy. She cherished her five grandchildren: Jennifer Rosas (Abe), Jerrod Stearnes (Tiffany), Brooke Lewis, Marshall Erisman, and Myla Stearnes. She was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Lillie, Claira, Audrey, Landon, Brodee, Lliam, Evelyn, and Amilia, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Vernie was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, L.Z. Wayne; beloved daughter, Connie Faye Brooke; brother, Ernest Waller; sister-in-law, Wilma Waller; brother-in-law, Coy Reel; and many other cherished family members that welcomed her home.
Vernie is survived by her daughters, Joy Stearnes (Mike) and Donna Erisman; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, Leon Waller of Visalia, California; sister, Dolly Reel of Hood River, Oregon; and extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Vernie will be remembered for her love, devotion, and the impact she made on the lives of those around her.
The Family would like to say thank you to Glenwood Healthcare and Everhome Hospice for all their care and love given to Vernie.
Funeral services for Vernie will be Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 6:30 PM in the Mansfield Church of The Nazarene. Visitation will be prior to the service from 5:30-6:30 PM. Burial will be Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the Mansfield cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Terry Buchanan and Pastor Bruce McCrite. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Wright County Children’s Home in memory of Vernie Jean Brooke.
