VIOLET MORRISON
Violet Morrison, 85, Tecumseh, MO passed away on February 16, 2010 at the Gainesville Health Care Center, Gainesville, MO. She was born on September 6, 1924 in Zanoni, MO the daughter of Thomas A. and Ollie (Pitchford) Miller.
On December 17, 1945 she was united in marriage to Dale Morrison in Mountain Home, AR. To this union one son was born, Byron. Violet thoroughly enjoyed her Avon business and the many friends she made over her 20 years. She served as an active member of the Ozark County University of Missouri Extension Council for 33 years and ended her working career as the Tecumseh Postmaster, a job she thoroughly loved.
In fact one Saturday in the mid-eighties when hit with an ice storm, her fill-in helper called saying she couldn't get to the Post Office. Neither could Violet, so she persuaded Dale to drag their canoe across the bottom field to Norfolk Lake. Using pitchforks as walking sticks they made it to the lake and Dale paddled the canoe to Tecumseh and back home after the two hour shift. And yes, she did have 3-4 customers who had made it out over Hwy 160 which the Highway Department had been able to clean during the early morning hours. This is just one example of the kind of dedicated, hard working woman that Violet was. She was a Christian and a member of the Dawt Church of Christ and she will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Violet is survived by her husband Dale Morrison of the home in Tecumseh, MO; one son Byron Morrison of Springfield, MO; three grandchildren Joshua Dale Morrison and wife Sarah and their two daughters Josie and Phoebe of Lebanon, IN, Daniel Ray Morrison and wife Jan of Nashville, TN, and Rebekah Colleen Morrison of Springfield, MO; four sisters Velta Hambelton, Lura Hambelton, Nova Bryan, and Fern Beasley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Ollie Miller; and three brothers Arthur, Fred, and Jake Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 19, 2010 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO with Coleman Smith and Cody Mayberry officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 PM to service time. Interment will be in the Smith Chapel Cemetery.
