Obituary

Virginia Kathleen Burnett, 86 years, passed on to heaven on October 20, 2012 at her home with her daughter, Carrie in West Plains, MO with her family by her side after a long illness.

Virginia was born February 22, 1926 in Almartha, MO to Jessie Dean and Mattie Lou (Martin) Price.



Virginia was a resident of the Ava community for many years. On December 24, 1946 Virginia and Jay Thomas Burnett were united in marriage in Independence, MO and to this union five children were born.


Virginia was retired from working at Rawlings Sporting Goods in Ava for over 26 years. She was a Christian and a member of the Ava General Baptist Church.


Virginia enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling with special friend, Jim Rhodes. She enjoyed her church family at Ava General Baptist traveling and volunteering at youth camps and other activities. While in West Plains, she enjoyed attending at The Center of God Church. Most of all she loved being with her children and grandchildren.


Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jay in 1977, a son, Roger, three brothers, Audie & wife, Helen, Doy and Lyle Price and two sisters, Hettie Cooper and Glenda & husband, B.W. Beach and son-in-law, Terry Trespasso.


Virginia is survived by five children & their spouses, Charles & Rayann Burnett, Joplin, MO, Larry Lee & Evelyn Burnett, Ava, MO, Sandra Trepasso, Ava, MO, Darrell & Terrie Burnett, Pottersville, MO, Carrie & Dick Bennett, West Plains, MO, 29 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, one brother, Lynn & Norma Price, Holden, MO, two sisters-in-law, Emogene Price and Betty Price, many nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.


Funeral services for Virginia will be Wednesday, October 24, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Wasola, MO. Officiating will be her son, Pastor Charles Burnett. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association, American Cancer Society or Gideons.
