VIRGINIA LOVE (MCWILLIAMS) LOWERY
Virginia Love (McWilliams) Lowery, 88, of Theodosia, MO passed away September 26, 2018 in Ava, Missouri. She was born November 7, 1930 in Jackson, Mississippi, daughter and first child of James Dewit and Julia Odele (Love) McWilliams.
Her growing up years were all spent in Jackson, Mississippi are where she graduated from Clinton High School, married her husband of 68 years, Jerry David Lowery and mothered two children, Jerry David Jr. and Rebecca Patrice. During this growing-up period she was active in school and church programs and enjoyed vacation travel, particularly to the Southwest. As the children matured, she sometimes worked in temporary government positions and wound up this stage of her life as the quasi office manager of the local physician.
The maturing period of her life was spent in the Bourbonnaise, Illinois area where she was active in the Christian Women's Club and a volunteer in the Riverside Hospital Auxiliary.
The retirement period of her life was spent in the Theodosia, Missouri area enjoying the quiet beauty of the Ozarks, the friendliness of its people and the unique cultural activities of the area. As health permitted, she was true to her giving nature and was active in the ministries of her church. Meals for the home bound were of particular concern to her.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Earl McWilliams.
She is survived by a sister, Sylvia Rhea Carty; brother James D. McWilliams Jr.; her husband, Jerry Lowery; daughter, Rebecca; son David and his wife Judy Johnston; three grandchildren, Adam Lowery, Deanna Chyn and husband Eric, Jeffrey Lowery and wife Olivia; and four great grandchildren Malone, Jackson, Haiden and Bennett.
No local services are planned at this time. Funeral services will be held in Jackson, Mississippi on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Lakewood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday evening, October 1, 2018 at Lakewood Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial will be in the Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery. Local arrangements are under the care and direction of Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Gainesville, MO.
