Virginia Knoll Silvey

Ava, MO

Virginia Silvey, 96 years, 1 month, and 11 days old, passed away on September 22, 2015 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO.

Virginia was born August 11, 1919 in Pleasant Gap, MO. She was the fifth of six daughters born to Joseph and Edna Knoll. At an early age her family moved to California. During the depression years they returned to farm near Lamar, MO, where she attended Fantha JOB School and Lamar High School. After returning to California, she married A.I. "Buck" Silvey on April 6, 1940 in Yuma, AZ. To this union four sons were born. In 1945 the family returned to Ava, MO where for many years they operated a dairy farm.

Virginia was a housewife and also worked at Hesterlee's Clothing Store and Ava Produce.

She was a lifetime avid reader, she enjoyed gardening and yard work and was very active at the Ava Senior Citizen's Center and enjoyed being with her special friends. Early in their marriage, Buck and Virginia enjoyed square dancing.

Virginia was a Christian and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her five sisters, her husband of 43 years,"Buck"Silvey and her sons, Gary and Dennis and a granddaughter, Lori Silvey.

She is survived by her two sons and their spouses; Larry & Mae Ruth Silvey, Ava, MO and Danny & Nanette Silvey, Highlands Ranch, CO, and daughter-in-law, Barbara Silvey, Battlefield, MO, seven grandchildren; Steve Silvey, Scott Silvey, Sarah Cates, Chip Silvey, Lisa Ussery, Dana Lisson, and Monica Erdman, 19 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.


Graveside services for Virginia will be Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ava Cemetery, Ava, MO. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava. Officiating will be her nephew, Rev. John Comer. Memorials may be made to the donor's charity of choice.
