Wayne L. Applequist, 77 years, 9 months and 20 days passed to heaven on April 8, 2011 at St.John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, MO.
Wayne was born June 18, 1933 in DeNova, CO to Ashton and Bertha (Ferguson) Applequist.
Wayne was a resident of the Ava community for 38 1/2 years moving from Lakenheath, RAF Station, England. He retired as a Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force. He also worked as a Radar Technician and served the Air Force for over 20 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.
On Nov. 5, 1955, Wayne and Donna Mekelburg were united in marriage in Raton, New Mexico and to this union two daughters were born.
Wayne also worked for 20 years as a Mail Carrier in the Ava community. He was a member of the Church of the Living God in Ava.
Wayne enjoyed woodworking, farming, boating, helping the Mighty Mights in Ava and traveling.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Iona Hann, Lois Bailey and Wauneta Nelson, two brothers, George R. and Raymond E. Applequist and a half sister, Leota Knott.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Donna Applequist, Ava, MO, two daughters, Lori Allen and husband, Jim, Warsaw, MO and Lisa Taber, Ava, MO, four grandchildren, Leann McFarlin, Wayne J. Baechle, Tyler J. Allen and Aaron R. Taber, brother-in-laws, Leonard Bailey, Akron, CO, and Morris Nelson, Dillon, CO,sister-in-law, Anita Applequist, Ft.Collins, CO, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services for Wayne will be Saturday, April 16, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with full military honors by Ava American Legion #112 and VFW #5993. Visitation will be Sat. 9:00 a.m. to service time in the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Ronnie Pinckney and Rev. Gary Moore. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Church of the Living God, Ava, MO or the donors choice of charity.
