W.D. COLLINS
W.D. "Dub" Collins passed away Tuesday, 63 years. Dub was born on July 2, 1944 in September 18, 2007 in Pontiac, Missouri at the age of Gainesville to Clarence Collins and Cuba M. (Lamb) Collins. A graduate of Gainesville High School Dub, and Dorlene Mertens were married on February 28, 1963 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He then entered the United States Army in 1968 and served our Country during the Vietnam War. After returning home in 1971 and begin working for Chaney Monument. It wasn't long before Dub had purchased the monument company and him and Dorlene operated it together. In November of 1999 Dorlene passed away. Then on August 10, 2001 Dub and Elma Crisp were married in Gainesville. Elma worked with Dub in the company and ran the Ava office. Other family members also worked with Dub and he depended on Rob, Angie and Janet for much needed help.
Dub had interests outside the monument company; he served several terms on the Gainesville City Counsel and was active in many things around Gainesville and Ozark County.
He is survived by his wife Elma Collins of the home in Gainesville; nephew Rob Collins of Gainesville, Rob and Angie's children Seth and Lydia(who Dub loved as his own grandchildren) sisters Dixie Collins and Janet Collins both of Gainesville, brother Guy Collins of Mountain Home.
Dub is preceded in death by his Parents Clarence and Cuba Collins, Wife Dorlene, sisters Helen Jean Michaels and Wanda Moody.
Graveside services were held Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Pontiac Cemetery with Halbert Smith officiating. Burial followed with Military Honors provided by the Honors Team from West Plains, Missouri.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and left at the Funeral Home.
